The Kaviani Banner was the mythical and historical flag of Iran until the end of the Sassanid Empire, which, according to Ferdowsi’s account in the Shahnameh, came into being with the uprising of the blacksmith Kaveh against Zahhak and the beginning of the reign of Fereydun. The Kaviani Banner had a purple background and red, gold, and purple stripes hung from it, and in its center was the shape of a star (Akhtar), which is why it is also known in sources as the Akhtar Kaviani. This flag came into being after the uprising of Kaveh against Zahhak, when Kaveh placed his leather blacksmith’s apron on a wooden spear and gathered people around him to rise against Zahhak. After the victory of this uprising, and Fereydun became king, he honored this banner and added jewels to it. According to sources, this banner had dimensions of about 5 meters by 7.5 meters and was made of leopard or lion skin.
About Dr. Mohammad Ali Eslami Nadushan
Mohammad Ali Eslami Nodoshan (September 2, 1924 – May 2, 2021) was an Iranian poet, critic, writer, translator, lawyer, and researcher. He studied international law in France and after returning to Iran, he first worked as a judge in the judiciary, but after a while, at the invitation of Fazlollah Reza, he went to Tehran University. From 1969 to two years after the Bahman Revolution, Nodoshan taught law and comparative literature at the University of Law and the Faculty of Literature of Tehran University. He founded the quarterly Hasti and simultaneously wrote articles in a number of Iranian literary magazines, including Negin, Sokhan, and Yaghma. In recent years, Mohammad Eslami Nodoshan was among the writers of the Etelaat newspaper and the International Etelaat newspaper, which were published simultaneously in London and Los Angeles. The newspaper was closed during the presidency of Hassan Rouhani. Nadoshan was one of the most prolific contemporary Iranian writers and researchers. In addition to writing books, he translated non-Iranian works into Persian, including works on Iranian literature and culture. He has written and translated more than 70 works and hundreds of articles.
